Richard practiced as a Barrister at the Nottingham Bar between 1973 – 1980. Richard became a Solicitor in June 1980 and established Beresford and Long Solicitors in Sheffield in 1984. He has specialised in personal injury cases for the last 26 years.
Richard is a qualified solicitor, having joined the firm in 1996. As well as being a Partner, Richard has a caseload of high-value traumatic injury claims. Having acted for thousands of local people, his expertise in personal injury law is recognised by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. Richard is a senior litigator.
Ralph Clark

Ralph joined the firm in September 2003 and became Managing Partner in June 2018.
Ralph’s background is in health and safety. He graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Health in 1998, before qualifying as an Environmental Health Officer. He then specialised in the enforcement of health and safety and accident investigation within premises in Sheffield, before commencing an MSc in Occupational Health and Safety Management. He has since completed a part-time Post Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course, obtaining a distinction in the same.
Ralph has an in-depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, specialising in traumatic accidents at work, road traffic accidents and industrial disease claims. He has extensive experience of civil trials, site meetings and disputes.
After completing his training contract at Banner Jones & Middleton Solicitors in Chesterfield, Chris specialised in criminal litigation at Irwin Mitchell in Sheffield. During his time there, he gained extensive experience in all aspects of criminal defence work. This included defending clients at the Police Station, at The Magistrates Court and at The Crown Court.
Chris later moved on to Favell, Smith and Lawson in Sheffield where he continued with criminal litigation, taking a special interest in advocacy and motoring cases.
In 2008 Chris joined ASD where he deals with all aspects of personal injury and civil litigation, whilst continuing to deal with privately funded criminal litigation. He became a partner in June 2018.
Grace Newbold

Grace graduated from the University of Keele in 2015 with a BSc degree in Psychology and Criminology, during which time she gained experience working in Child Protection Law, assisting with many different aspects of cases funded by legal aid. She then completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the University of Sheffield whilst continuing to gain legal experience. Grace has worked at ASD since 2017 where she has completed her Training Contract. Grace has been the first point of client contact dealing with all aspects of personal injury claims including road traffic collisions, accidents at work and public liability claims. Grace has also undertaken advocacy in the County Court. Grace qualified as a Solicitor in 2019.
