Children’s Serious Injury Claims

At Accident Solicitors Direct Limited, we are honoured to be a part of the Major Trauma Support Partnership (MTSP), working in close collaboration with Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The MTSP is a vital initiative designed to ensure that individuals and families affected by major trauma, particularly those receiving care at specialist hospitals like Sheffield Children’s, receive comprehensive support beyond their immediate medical needs. As a member of this accredited panel, our role is to provide a free legal advice service to patients and their families who are referred to us directly by the hospital.

This partnership means that when a child or family has experienced a serious injury, and legal questions or potential claims arise, the hospital can confidently signpost them to our expert team. We offer compassionate and clear legal guidance at no initial cost, helping families understand their rights, explore potential compensation, and navigate the complex legal process during what is undoubtedly a challenging and often overwhelming time.

Our commitment through the MTSP is to complement the exceptional medical care provided by Sheffield Children’s Hospital by offering accessible and specialised legal assistance, ensuring a holistic approach to recovery and well-being for the children and families in our community.

For children who have sustained a serious or life-changing injury, the need for expert rehabilitation is immediate and often long-term. At ASD, we don’t just focus on compensation; our primary goal is to ensure your child receives the best possible care to achieve the fullest recovery. This is where our specialist approach, in line with the Rehabilitation Code 2015, comes in.

The Rehabilitation Code is a framework that encourages solicitors and insurers to work together to get an injured person the medical and rehabilitative support they need as early as possible. For serious injury claims, this is a vital tool.

Acting on your behalf, we use the Code to:

  1. Request an Immediate Needs Assessment (INA): We contact the responsible insurer to arrange and fund a full assessment of your child’s needs. This is carried out by an independent, qualified professional known as a Case Manager.
  2. Develop a Personalised Plan: The Case Manager’s assessment will identify all of your child’s needs, from physiotherapy and psychotherapy to specialist equipment and support for the family.
  3. Secure Funding from Insurers: Once a rehabilitation plan is agreed, the insurer of the at-fault party will fund it. This ensures your child can start receiving the best possible care without waiting for the final settlement of the claim.

We have a long-standing and trusted relationship with Bush & Co, a leading provider of case management services for children with serious injuries. They are an independent and highly respected organisation that specialises in coordinating complex rehabilitation for children with needs such as acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and complex orthopaedic conditions.

By working with an expert partner like Bush & Co, we ensure your child benefits from:

  • A dedicated Case Manager: A single point of contact who coordinates all aspects of their care.
  • Access to Expert Professionals: The Case Manager will build a multi-disciplinary team tailored to your child’s needs, which can include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and psychologists.
  • Holistic Support: Bush & Co’s expertise covers not only medical needs but also educational support, home adaptations, and assistance with returning to hobbies and activities.

This collaborative process, funded by the insurers under the Rehabilitation Code, allows us to provide a level of care and support that goes far beyond a typical legal claim, giving your child the best chance for a successful recovery and a brighter future.

Beyond our direct legal support through the MTSP, we are also incredibly proud that Sheffield Children’s Hospital is Accident Solicitors Direct Limited’s chosen charity. This means our commitment extends beyond providing legal services; we actively support the hospital’s vital work through fundraising, awareness campaigns, and other initiatives.

Over the past 15 years, we have been dedicated to this cause, raising more than £50,000 to support the hospital’s crucial projects. A significant part of these efforts has gone towards helping fund the state-of-the-art helipad, a vital addition that ensures critically ill and injured children can receive urgent care as quickly as possible. This deeper charitable relationship reflects our firm’s core values and our dedication to the well-being of our community.

We offer this service completely free of charge for Children’s Claims.
